YPF Digital Transformation

Control and Monitoring Solution for Unit Digital Transformation

To drive the digital transformation of its production unit in Brazil, YPF Química selected NX Series controllers as the technological foundation to align its processes with the connectivity, cybersecurity, and high-productivity requirements of Industry 4.0.

The implementation enabled enhanced real-time monitoring, improved integration between systems, and greater operational intelligence, ensuring safer, more efficient, and highly connected production operations.

Control and monitoring solution for YPF's digital transformation

Altus’ technology played a key role in the modernization of YPF Química, the Brazilian subsidiary of YPF.

Altus products were integrated across nearly the entire production line, from overfill prevention systems and pump shutdown pressure control to operational safety interlocks, recipe management, production line safety systems, and even the pipeline cleaning system (PIG).

By embracing digital transformation with Altus automation solutions, YPF significantly enhanced performance and productivity while reinforcing operational integrity and environmental safety throughout its processes.

Application with Nexto PLC

Application with Nexto PLC

Nexto PLCs handle data collection, processing, communication, and the operation of the plant’s devices

Advanced processing with the NX3005 CPU

Advanced processing with the NX3005 CPU

The architecture implemented is based on an NX3005 control unit, a CPU from the NX Series featuring high-speed processing, extensive data storage capacity, an integrated power supply, and an embedded WebServer.

The PLC serves as the core of the control and supervision solution, processing data collected from field instruments and interacting with both local and remote supervisory resources.

In addition to providing the technology for YPF’s digital transformation, Altus contributed engineering expertise through its specialists, who were integral in automating the plant’s production machinery.

In addition to the Nexto buses, the architecture also has a energy multimeter from the Energy Series, responsible for monitoring consumption and the quality of electrical energy of the operation. For local supervision and insertion of recipes, the solution has a HMI P2102NK, 10” touchscreen graphic terminal with P2 Series Ethernet. Remote supervision is the responsibility of SCADA/HMI BluePlant, solution for supervision, control and data acquisition from Altus.

High performance communication networks

High performance communication networks

The developed solution has two control networks: one operating in MODBUS RTU and the other in MODBUS TCP, both controlled by a bus composed of the NX3005 CPU and I/O modules of different models, in addition to a expanded bus with more input and output cards.

This composition is responsible for data collection, activation and adjustment of field instruments, such as analog and digital sensors, floats, pneumatic valves, relays, inverters and soft-starters, pressure transmitters and flow meters.
