Urucum Mining DCS

A new digital Control System

Altus supplied the automation technology for the development of the new Digital Control System at the Urucum Mineração manganese extraction plant, located in Cuiabá, Brazil.

The project played a key role in modernizing the plant’s operational infrastructure, delivering enhanced process control, increased system reliability, and improved production efficiency. By implementing advanced automation solutions, Altus contributed to greater operational stability, optimized resource utilization, and higher overall performance in the mining operation.

Digital Control System (DCS) for the Urucum Mining Production Plant

The solution implemented by Altus was designed to accurately measure and quantify the total volume and mass of water used in the ore beneficiation process at VALE – Urucum Mineração.

Within this framework, the new system centralizes all information related to water resource consumption and ore processing, enabling greater operational control, improved management, and enhanced efficiency in water use. This approach supports both productivity and sustainability goals within the mining operation.

The area was instrumented using Motorola communication radios to provide Ethernet interconnection between the measurement points and the InduSoft Web Studio supervisory system, ensuring reliable data transmission, real-time monitoring, and consistent system performance across the plant.
