REGAP Refinery

Supervision and Control System at REGAP

Altus was responsible for the development and implementation of the Supervisory Control System at the Gabriel Passos Refinery (REGAP), a Petrobras facility.

Optimization of the control and supervision system

The Supervisory Control System delivered by Altus at the Gabriel Passos Refinery, located in Betim, Minas Gerais, Brazil, monitors and controls a wide range of operations, including the custody transfer metering station (EMED), the LPG metering station, the spent caustic oxidation unit, the pressure relief system, oily wastewater treatment, the API oil-water separator, and the aqueous effluent treatment unit.

Through multiple communication interfaces developed by Altus, the system ensures seamless integration with other refinery systems, such as the process Distributed Control System (DCS), product storage tank level and temperature gauging systems, among others.

Core Functions of the Implemented System

Core Functions of the Implemented System

The system provides essential functions for the Setrae and REGAP units, including the acquisition of discrete and analog data, monitoring of variables with the generation of necessary alarms for operators, execution of interlock logic, implementation of PID control logic, and bidirectional data exchange with the Supervision System using Fix Dmacs for Windows.

Communication Networks Used in the Project

Communication Networks Used in the Project

The ALNET II process network, built with fiber-optic cabling, is deterministic and multi-master, operating at 1 Mbps and linking the main Programmable Controller in the Final Area Control Room to the remote Programmable Controllers located in the Control Rooms of Unit 37 and Emed.

The ALNET I network connects the two Supervision Stations to the main Programmable Controller, with one station linked directly through a conventional serial channel and the other connected via the AL-2005 coprocessor, allowing both stations to access the same system database. The MODBUS network integrates the main controller with the DCS through the AL-2005 coprocessor, and interfaces with intelligent transmitters are also implemented using the same coprocessor within the Altus' controller.

Equipment scope used in the solution

Equipment scope used in the solution

The system consists of three Altus AL-2002/MSP Programmable Controllers, two Fix Dmacs for Windows supervision software installations, and the FOCOS fiber optic communication system, along with specific communication protocols such as MODBUS and the telepulse system.

It also includes three AL-2005 coprocessors that provide interfaces with intelligent transmitters, the DCS, and a microcomputer, ensuring full integration and data exchange across all components.
