GDFS Essequibo

Modernization of control and supervision systems

The patrol vessel GDFS Essequibo, commissioned into the British Navy in 1985 and later sold to a South American country in 2001, underwent a modernization of its control and supervision systems using Altus' products and automation solutions.

The upgrade enhanced operational reliability, improved onboard monitoring capabilities, and ensured greater system availability, extending the vessel’s service life with advanced, high-performance automation technology.

The modernization, executed by a Rio de Janeiro–based company, included comprehensive upgrades to the control systems of the vessel’s crane, propulsion system (main engines and propellers), auxiliary machinery, and emergency generator. These systems are essential to the ship’s safe and reliable operation.

For this project, Altus supplied two of its flagship technologies: Nexto Series controllers and the BluePlant SCADA/HMI software platform. These high-performance controllers incorporate state-of-the-art technology to ensure robustness, reliability, and advanced connectivity, meeting the requirements of leading international maritime certification standards.
